Microtransactions in NBA 2K22 MyTeam mode
Microtransactions are even more prominent in the "MyTeam" mode. Similar to FIFA's Ultimate Team mode, the goal here is to assemble the most powerful team possible with player cards, with which you can rock various game modes integrated into "NBA MyTeam Coins" and dominate other players.
Similar to the TCG classic Magic: The Gathering, you expand your own card collection with card packs, where you never know exactly what you'll get for the VC (or NBA 2K 22 MT
) currency or money. In other words, you're dealing with genuine Lootboxes, whose contents are determined by the factor of chance. And just like in gambling, your brain will kick in when you hit the jackpot (i.e. when you pick up a particularly rare card of a superstar).
Very early on in the "MyTeam" buildup, the game hooks you on it, with big-name free agents like Giannis Antetokounmpo or LeBron James, but then they only have a contract for a few games. If you want to sign these players for longer, you need contract extensions, which you can buy or find in card packs. The player cards are also available in different quality levels, some cards can be developed, and you can also unlock all kinds of other stuff, such as coaches, logos, or historical arenas.
And what are the prizes? Well, 5,000 VC are already available for 1.99 Euros. 15.000 VC you get for 4,99 Euro, 35.000 VC for 9,99 Euro and 75.000 VC for 19,99 Euro. The largest packages (200,000 and 450,000 VC) cost 49.99 euros and 99.99 euros respectively. To keep the confusion as high as possible, there are completely different card packs in the "MyTeam" mode: Deluxe packs with 5 cards each for 5,625 VC (about 2.24 Euro), special Premiere packs for 22,500 VC (about 7.50 Euro) as well as Primetime or Colossal packs, which are even more expensive than the Deluxe pack (7,500 VC or 11,250 VC for one pack each), but also guarantee a random Primetime or Colossal player. Newcomers might not have any idea what exactly the value for money is at first with such an offer.
